My name is Puiming Webber, but all my friends call me Ming.

I grew up in Hong Kong, but have been living in the U.S. for the past thirty years.

I use photography as a tool to explore spirituality. When I am engrossed in the process, I anticipate encountering a space that opens me up to seeing the world in new ways. My photographic practice encourages me to embrace “moments of recognition”: the times when I recognize myself out in the world, or those moments when I recognize spirit, grace, and transcendence in the midst of the everyday.

My sense of aesthetics is inspired by this traditional Japanese concept called “wabi sabi” When making my images, I look for beauty, but not in a conventional sense. I am drawn to photographing places that are in constant state of flux, objects that are in various stages of decay, modest and humble. because they are past their prime, they have all but just been forgotten.

In this day and age, when everything aims to be seen as beautiful, perfect, faster and better, I hope my images will give viewers the opportunity to reflect on the value of rustic simplicity, understated elegance and serenity shaped by the passage of time.
